Great Diamond Island, Portland, ME, USA

About Great Diamond Island

Diamond Cove is an area of Great Diamond Island, which is only accessible by boat. Located a short distance off the coast of Portland, the island is serviced by a regular ferry schedule or water taxi. The ferry terminal and taxi harbor is a 15 minute drive from Portland International Jetport (PWM) and a little over 90 minutes from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). There is a non-stop bus that departs regularly from (BOS) with Concord Coach Lines. It is a short Uber ride from the bus station in Portland to get downtown. There is also a train. We will be coordinating rides for those coming from out of town. If you would like to be part of a carpool, please let us know.

Parking

Parking is available in various lots in downtown Portland. The Ocean Gateway Lot at 2 Commercial St is right next to the ferry terminal, at $20/day. Another option is Angelo’s Acre located at the corner of Park Street and Commercial St at $5/day and a 20-minute walk from Casco Bay Lines.
Neil and Kate have frequently missed their ferry having failed to prepare for adequate time to find parking. Don't worry: another ferry is on its way, and you'll likely have time to grab a drink or a lobster roll while you wait. If you would rather be in more control of your destiny, you can call ahead for a water taxi.

Ferry

The Casco Bay Lines Ferry is the easiest way to get to Great Diamond Island. Plan on being on the boat for 20-30 minutes - it's a beautiful trip! You only need a ticket on your way out to Great Diamond- going back to Portland you are able to board any scheduled ferry.

There are two "Great Diamond Island" ferry stops, the second and third stop out from Portland respectively. If you are staying at the Inn or coming from Portland on Saturday for the wedding, you will get off at the third stop or the "Cove" stop. The Inn will have shuttles to take you and your luggage to your room. For the wedding, the ceremony site is a ~5 minute walk from the ferry.

If you are staying on the Island side in a rental house, you will get off at the second stop, and we will coordinate a golf cart to bring you to the airbnb. This stop is closer to the location of the Welcome Party. However, you can walk between the Cove and the Island stop in ~20 minutes.

Water Taxi

If you miss the ferry, you can take a water taxi which can carry 6 people and you can divide the cost of $65 between passengers.
In Portland, they pick you up and drop you off at the public dock which is next to the Fire Boat and in front of Casco Bay Lines. On Great Diamond, they will drop you off and pick you up from either ferry dock.
Since the ferry terminal and the water taxi pick up location are next to each other, the parking and driving directions are the same for both.
